I visited the Sarovaram Biopark, located close to the mini-bypass road in Kozhikode. Sarovaram Biopark is a 200-acre land of protected mangrove forests and wetlands that is under the Kerala Government. This was the first time I visited this place and I was seriously looking forward to some me-time.

It was around 9:30 in the morning. As I was paying for my tickets, I saw cycles that were kept for visitors. I immediately decided to rent a cycle and roam around the park. There are two directions at the entrance that you can take to explore. To your right, you’ll find a walking path that lies in between the conolly canal and swamps. To your left is the entrance of the Sarovaram Biopark.

I took my cycle to roam around the walking path. There was literally no one around. I stopped in-between to check out the beautiful swamps. As you go further, you’ll come across a majestic lake that once used to be a hot spot for boat rides. However, ever since the Kerala floods, they’ve stopped operations. You can sit there, facing the lake and bask in the beauty of it. It’s one of those moments that will bring peace to you.

After a while, I rode my cycle back to the main entrance. I decided to walk the journey. Do note that when you rent the cycle, you have it for a good 30 minutes. I’d, however, suggest that you choose to walk because the beauty around is worth stopping every other second.

The main entrance of the Sarovaram Biopark is welcoming. In the sense, there’s a huge structure ready to receive you with open arms. That’s exactly how I felt. You have to walk through a narrow path that’s blanketed with trees and swamps around. A little further, you see a massive open-air theatre.

As you walk ahead, you’ll see a children’s park too. This was one of the best sights I saw in the park. The children’s park is covered with age-old trees, plants, flowers, you name it. Imagine being the only one in this park surrounded by the beauty and sounds of nature. Thrilling, isn’t it?

At the end of the park, there was a makeshift blockade. I didn’t know why it was there because the path led to the forest. I took the risk of jumping over it and walked my way through the dense forest. That’s when I understood why people kept on telling me that Sarovaram Biopark is a couple’s paradise. The forest trail is structured in a way where there are a couple of rock benches and small dome-like structures for travellers to sit and enjoy. At every nook and corner, you’ll find a couple showcasing their love. Not that I am complaining. After all, it’s a place with the best privacy ever.

According to the Central Government, this biopark has 27 wetlands and over 35 different species of birds. The stunning forest thrives with a wide variety of wildlife and greenery. A walk in the park is sure to make your worries go away. More than that, the Sarovaram Biopark is so clean that you will be surprised by it. Upon speaking to the authorities over there, they said that the park is home to runners in the early hours. There’s no entry fee for them. However, when the working hours start, you have to pay an entrance fee.
You must visit this peaceful paradise when you are in Kozhikode next time.
