The state of Kerala now has its own internet service. It is the first state in the country to have so. The Kerala Fiber Optic Network Ltd (K-FON) has received the ISP license from the Department of Telecommunications.
The Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan, has announced that internet access is every human’s basic right. With the approval of the K-FON project, the Kerala Government will soon ensure that every person in the state gets access to internet services.

The project will set up a state-wide core optical fibre network. It also aims at providing free internet to people Below Poverty Line, around 30,000 government offices, educational institutions, hospitals, households that fall under the economically backward category, and subsidized internet for others by leveraging KFON Infrastructure.
